Cantina di Camerano

a point of reference in the area of the Rosso Conero

The history of Rosso Conero is one of the most impressive in Le Marche. Its Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC) is granted in 1967,áone of the first in Italy. The Cantina del Conero is built in 1972 and it has always played a major role in the area. In the late 1980s, the Cantina plays a leadership role in setting higher quality standards in both vineyard and cellar, thus laying the foundations for the renaissanceáin recent years. Moncaro decides to invest in the area in the early 1990s, and after working closely with the Cantina del Conero for some time, purchases it in 1995. The Cantina del Conero seems almost like a high-tech studio for red wine production. Vinification is carried out in wide but rather low tanks, designed for optimal cap submersion, while a highly-trained team of specialists rigorously supervise temperature control, punch-downs, and dÚlestage. The barrel room is truly remarkable, boasting a barrel capacity of some three thousand hectolitres (ca. 80,000 gal.), with large barrels in Slavonian and Allier oak and barriques in Allier, Tronšais, Never and American oak. The Cantina del Conero boasts 188 hectares (ca. 460 acres), with an impressive 122 ha dedicated to the production of Conero DOC. The winery begin in the late 1990s to put in new vineyards, which are the absolute foundation for producing great wines. The varieties chosen are the traditional Conero selections, Montepulciano and Sangiovese, as well asánon-natives grapesásuch as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
